My expectations for graduate students (in fact all students) is quite high. I assume that graduate students have decided to pursue advanced studies because they are fundamentally curious about knowledge and want to contribute to society through advanced problem solving and research. They are serious about their studies and are willing to work very hard. Those students that are on an assistantship should treat it as a job. Application to and acceptance with our graduate program are required before I accept a student as an advisee. Any funding decisions are made after the student has been admitted into the graduate program.
I have written a document with some advice for my graduate students. If you are interested in being my student, you need to read this document. You should also be aware of all the rules and regulations of the graduate school and our graduate program.
